Immunosafety of Nanomaterials

The seminar will focus on the topic of how different organisms interact with engineered nanomaterials (NM) potentially causing immune reactions with difficult to predict consequences in plants, invertebrates, vertebrates (including mammals and humans). In the context of the seminar following themes are addressed: Which kind of immunity reactions are common to the above mentioned organismal groups? How are the NMs recognized across species representing the taxa above? What are the known molecular responses activated by NM across these species? What are the consequences of NM-caused immune reactions on organismal level and on the level of organism-associated microbiota? How should new NM be tested for immunosafety across species before release into the environment? Under which aspects can new NMs be approved for their use or must be banned?
