Light energy harvesting inspired by photosynthesis

Human technology has always been developed on the basis of the potential demonstrated by biological systems at work. Take the aeroplane, for example, which was built from the analysis of bird anatomy and flight. Today, this type of technological field is divided into several branches, including artificial intelligence, robotics, and artificial photosynthesis. The proposed seminar will focus on light harvesting in nature. We will examine the current understanding of photosynthesis from the perspective of nanoscale and quantum sciences. It will also explore the types of bioinspired designs which are proposed for highly efficient light-harvesting nanodevices, with a particular focus on those based on DNA scaffolds supporting molecular dye networks.
